about lipik (summary):
Lipik is a well-known spa town situated in west Slavonia.The therapeutical effects of its thermal springs were already known during the Roman times. As the water contains great quantities of iodine, numerous documents mention Lipik as the Europe's first iodine-rich spa. The spa park constitutes the centre of Lipik. It took over the role of the town's central meeting-place, a popular venue offering great entertainment. Villas, boarding-houses, district's municipal building, a primary school, military holiday establishment and other buildings were built along the park's edges at the beginning of the 20th century. Already at the end of the 19th century this park became the centre of the town's urban development, an exquisite urban value which has to be preserved. The park should be viewed as a unique whole with all its surrounding buildings.
The spa park got its final shape during the first half of the 20th century. Architecturally, it displays certain characteristics of the late romanticism and the neo-renaissance, and the decorative garden in front of the northern façade of the Kursalon is dominated by elements of neo-baroque landscape architecture.

Lipik je lječilišno mjesto, od rimskih vremena (po nekima Aquae Balissae) poznato je po termalnim izvorima ljekovite vode. Zbog velike količine joda u vodi, Lipik se spominjao kao prvo jodno kupalište u Europi. Lipik je naselje u zapadnoj Slavoniji, nalazi se na 154 m nadmorske visine, u dolini riječice Pakre, okružen obroncima Papuka i Psunja.
